Attendees will explore how service gaps impact refugee self-sufficiency and learn practical strategies social workers can implement to improve communication, enhance integration efforts, and advocate effectively for refugee populations.
Avril Knox, DSW, CSW
Dr. Avril W. Knox is an Assistant Professor and MSW Field Director at East Texas A&M University. With 20+ years in senior leadership, her expertise spans refugee resettlement, health/mental health, gerontology, family services, and crisis intervention.
Gracie Brownell, PhD, LMSW
Dr. Gracie Brownell is an Associate Professor, Director, and Advisor of the Master of Social Work (MSW) program at Texas at A&M University-Commerce. Dr. Brownell is passionate about helping marginalized populations, especially minorities, abused and neglected children, children affected by war, and families experiencing immigration issues and other social problems.
