T1: Coordinated Specialty Care: Evidence-Based Practice for Early Intervention in Psychotic Disorders

This workshop will provide an overview of the coordinated specialty care model of early intervention for psychotic disorders, including the evidence base, history and philosophy of care, and opportunities and challenges around implementation. Participants will be able to describe key components of the model relevant to social work practice: psychosocial assessment, family support and therapy, individual therapy, and case management. The session will include case scenarios.

Barbara B. (Bebe) Smith, MSW, LCSW

Barbara B. (Bebe) Smith, MSW, LCSW is a clinical social worker, consultant and trainer. Her work focuses on providing humane and evidence-based treatment and services to persons who live with schizophrenia and other serious mental illnesses. She is a former clinical assistant professor of psychiatry and social work at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In 2005, she helped develop OASIS, the first early psychosis program in North Carolina. From 2012-2015, she led a pilot of Critical Time Intervention in Orange County and is a senior implementation specialist with the Center for Advancement of Critical Time Intervention. www.bebesmith.com
